Illinois State Representative Brian W. Stewart (R-Freeport) announced today that
he will be seeking election to the Illinois State Senate in 2018. Stewart intends to replace 45th
Illinois Senate District State Senator Tim Bivins (R-Dixon) who announced earlier this year that he
will not be seeking reelection to the Illinois General Assembly.
With his announcement, Stewart says he will not seek reelection as the 89th Illinois House
District Representative-a seat he has held since 2013.
"It has been truly an honor to serve and to represent the people of northwest Illinois as their
state representative and an honor to serve alongside Senator Bivins for the past four years," said
the 89th House District representative. "Senator Bivins has been a friend and a mentor to me
and I know I have some pretty big shoes to fill in the state senate should I be elected."
Much of Stewart's legislative work over the past five years has been focused on putting Illinois in
a regulatory and financial position to create living wage agricultural and manufacturing jobs that
will strengthen Illinois' ailing economy.
